Saline Solution Training Day
13 October 2012
at St Mary's Church, Wollaton Park,

Do you have questions about faith at work?
  • Is expressing it legal
  • Is it practical?
  • Would I have time?
  • Would I get into trouble?
  • How could I get involved?
The course is aimed at helping us draw patients in a natural way one step closer to a relationship with God, through recognising God-given opportunities to touch them with his love without being pushy, forced or offensive.

Healthcare Sunday
21 October 2012

People Under Pressure
Churches supporting healthcare workers

Working in the medical and caring professions is hard work. Helping people to deal with distressing problems, and caring for people at the most difficult and traumatic moments in their lives has never been easy.  Currently health workers of all kinds face even more pressure: coping with cuts in services as funding for the NHS becomes tighter; dealing with uncertainty in the face of legislative changes to the NHS; managing with pay freezes and changes to pension arrangements.

For Christians there are additional pressures. As the recent Clearing the Ground report found, there is a 'narrowing of the space for the articulation, expression and demonstration of Christian belief' in society in general. Many Christian health workers report finding this to be even more the case in the health service.  In addition, with the on-going debates about legalising assisted suicide and other ethical questions in healthcare, it can be hard to know how to be an effective Christian in the caring and medical professions today.
Healthcare Sunday is a chance for churches to express their support for health workers in their congregations and the wider local community, to acknowledge the vital role that they play, and to support and pray for them in the midst of all these pressures.

Parish Nursing Symposium 2012
'Caring for Carers'
18-19 November, Hothorpe Hall

Parish Nurses are registered nurses with some community experience, working from  local churches to develop a whole-person health ministry in the community.

Parish Nursing Ministries UK provides and continues to develop training for registered nurses to become accredited Parish Nurses. They engage in the development of the theology of health and wellbeing; in articulating the spiritual component and value; and in identifying good practice. They work collaboratively with complementary organisations ; we are multi-denominational and non-sectarian.

Each year they hold a symposium for all currently accredited Parish Nurses, those interested in becoming Parish Nurses, church leaders interested in setting up programmes and others with an interest. Amongst the confirmed keynote speakers at this year's symposium will be Margaret Sentamu, while BBC's Songs of Praise Pam Rhodes, a keen supporter of the work, will also be at the conference.
