CMF Students Conference 2014

(for medical, nursing and midwifery students)

Jesus Christ: The Be All and End All

7-9 February 2014
The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire

Mark Meynell, Senior Associate Minister at All Souls, Langham Place, London, leads us in studying the letter to the Colossians, helping us to know and love God more as we study Jesus, 'the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation' (Colossians 1:15). First century Colosse was very different from a typical 21st century British city. But the young church there faced many of the same issues that we face. Paul's letter focuses on the supremacy of Jesus, and instructed the Colossians how to live out their faith. Although the context may have changed, Jesus has not.

The words of the Bible are essential for everyone. Yet applying them to medicine or student life can be tricky. 'Anorexia' won't appear in a search on Biblegateway.com; neither will 'Facebook', nor even 'ethics'. The talks and seminars at the conference will help us understand that the Bible speaks clearly into these topics and many more. Prof John Wyatt (author of Matters of Life and Death) will give the conference address on understanding medical ethics, both in theory and how this works out in practice. His seminar will provide further opportunity for discussion.

CMF National Conference 2014

(for medics, nurses, midwives and students)

Made in the Image of God

25-27 April 2014
Yarnfield Park, Stone, Staffordshire

Our first parents entered a world without sin, death or decay; they left it in the grip of all three, in what Paul calls 'bondage to corruption'. Understanding our beginnings will help us to understand ourselves and the world we live in. As in so many other areas we will discover that truth is stranger (and often more complex and 'thick with meaning') than fiction.

Liam Golligher will be leading us through Bible addresses on Genesis 1-3 and Dr Vinod Shah will be giving the Rendle Short Memorial Lecture on the distinctiveness of a Christian view of health and medicine versus Western secular and Eastern religious ideas.

Saline Solution Training Days & Evenings Winter 2014

Do you have questions about faith at work?
  • Is talking about faith legitimate?
  • Is it good medicine?
  • Is it practical?
  • Would I have time?
  • How can I learn more?
Every Christian health professional has a unique opportunity to improve their patients' physical and spiritual health, but many feel frustrated by the challenge of integrating faith and practice within time constraints and legal obligations.

However, the scientific literature increasingly recognises the important link between spirituality and health and spiritual care is now regarded as a key nursing task and part of good practice.

Christians are called to be 'the salt of the earth' flavouring life with grace and truth. Saline Solution is a day course designed to help Christian healthcare professionals bring Christ into every day work. It has helped hundreds become more comfortable and adept at clinical practice that addresses the needs of the whole person.

The course is aimed at helping Christian healthcare professionals recognise God-given opportunities to demonstrate Christian love and concern.

In the spring there will be Saline Solution training days in
